Vision

The Challenge Academy is an idea based school born out of a desire for creative exploration of what the architecture competition can do as an educational process. We imagined the competition as a great pretext that encourages training our problem-solving skills, while giving us a prize to pursue.

The pop-up school intertwines the established model of learning architecture with lateral thinking and experimental forms of engagement. Its process is aimed to formulate a new notion of what an educational institution should mean and offer, complementing the lessons of the traditional system. 

When it comes to mentorship and knowledge-transmission, the intimate connection between young students and doctoral students is fostered. This approach generates give&take cycles within the community- each trained individual becomes a micro-universe generating strategies responding to present-day social and cultural issues. The process to persistently reinvent collective endevours could be essentialized by our motto: This school is a list of names.

Studio

Nod Makerspace, namely the Mater material library, hosts our exploration. Yet, the pandemic context made us wonder how we can generate meaning without being tangled up by a place on the long term. The next step we are willing to take is the reconnection of the fourth existing architecture faculties in Romania through an online semester of lectures and competition-based learning.
